The Giants left fielder, who had the season with a 2-17, was placed on the 15-day DL Tuesday for his injured left knee, and may need surgery. On the bright side, this will give Fred Lewis, Rajai Davis, Eugenio Velez plenty of additional playing time. The Giants called up outfielder Clay Timpner from Fresno to fill Roberts' roster spot. You may be wondering why Timpner and not Nate Schierholtz. My guess is that the Giants want Schierholtz to get regular playing time, not just warm the bench. He also plays center field, and can back up the banged-up Aaron Rowand.
